The RegionalInvestment Banking (RIB) team focuses on capital raising and strategic advisory for private and public companies in the mid-cap space, in particular J.P. Morgan and Chase commercial banking clients with revenue typically between $500 million and $2 billion. The RIB group is organized regionally, with offices in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Francisco, Houston and the Washington D.C. area. The Chicago team is responsible for covering clients in the Midwest / Central U.S. and partners closely with industry specialists and product experts across the J.P. Morgan organization to provide clients with a broad range of investment banking products. Clients span multiple industries such as Consumer/Retail, Diversified Industries, Energy, Financial Sponsors, Healthcare, Media & Communications, Metals & Mining, Real Estate/Gaming/Lodging, and Technology.
Role and Responsibilities
The Executive / Managing Director - RIB M&A will serve as a leader and supervisor of M&A project teams for RIB clients and transactions in the Midwest / Central U.S. as well as other RIB regions. This individual must be recognized by clients as a leading member of their relationship team as well as the driver of M&A execution. S/he will leverage and coordinate the full capabilities of J.P. Morgan’s investment banking resources on behalf of clients. In this capacity, one must be a world class M&A banker while partnering across all of J.P. Morgan Chase’s platforms to anticipate and win new business opportunities. Additionally, the ability to productively and efficiently interact with the JPM relationship bankers will be key to sustaining a long-term successful RIB M&A effort.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
M&A origination and execution.
Participate in and support clientmarketing activities and idea generation.
Partner with RIB coverage bankers inChicago and other RIB offices to build long-term client relationships anddevelop senior-level dialogue around M&A topics including acquisitions,divestitures, activism preparedness and defense, and strategic alternatives.
Work independently, producing highquality work by leveraging and accessing all of the capabilities and resources ofJ.P. Morgan Chase.
Keen attention to detail whilemaintaining a broad strategic advisory perspective.
Actively contribute to furtheringthe successful partnership at J.P. Morgan between RIB and M&A
Minimum 15 years of IB experiencewith significant required in executing mergers & acquisitions at a bulgebracket financial institution or leading investment banking boutique.
Possess strategic and marketinsights which will help source and identify M&A opportunities based on avariety of economic, industry and company-specific variables.
Comfortable operating as an M&Ageneralist in an environment where credit has historically driven the clientrelationship.
History of successful transactionexecution; comfortable working within a major bank across business divisionsand in a matrixed reporting structure.
Technical and functional excellencein M&A. Up to date on business valuation methodologies, as well asunderstanding key issues such as tax, foreign exchange, financing, andaccounting variables that drive and impact transactions.
Top caliber M&A skills with theability to assess, negotiate and close transactions.
Broad market view and the ability todistill and communicate information in a cogent, clear and concise manner.
Bachelors’ degree from a reputableuniversity; MBA is preferred.

It is critical that the Executive / ManagingDirector be able to relate well to client relationship partners and developgood working relationships with these individuals. It is also importantthat this person display maturity, good judgment and an ability to work withprofessionals at all levels inside JPMC. Strong analytical, technicalproblem solving, planning and organizational skills are a must. These abilitiesmust be evident on an individual level and as this person directs other projectmembers.
The candidate will be passionateabout JPM’s Regional Investment Banking effort and mid-cap clients and be willingto take on challenges out of their comfort zone.
It is expected that the Executive / ManagingDirector will demonstrate leadership qualities that are team-oriented andcollegial. The ability to delegate effectively and pay attention to detailwhile maintaining a high level of productivity will be important.
The Executive / Managing Directormust have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively inpresentations; expressing complex financial strategies in an organized andarticulate manner.
