Legal Department Description
The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas. This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.
The attorney will represent the firm in connection with distressed credits generally, including in proceedings commenced under the United States Bankruptcy Code, related litigation in the United States Bankruptcy Courts and in proceedings commenced in other state or foreign jurisdictions by or against debtors to whom the firm has credit exposure. The principal client base within the firm is its Special Credits Group, composed of experienced senior workout officers of the firm. It is preferable if the individual has relevant institutional client experience as well as knowledge of derivative and securities transactions. The position also will involve drafting agreements, providing advice on structuring transactions and familiarity in evaluating risks associated with that structure from an insolvency perspective.
Must have at least 7 years’ experience practicing law post-JD representing creditors in insolvency proceedings under state and federal insolvency laws
Extensive knowledge of insolvency law required
Strong communication and negotiation skills as well as the ability to work in a collaborative fashion with internal and external counsel required
Institutional client experience with additional knowledge of derivative and securities transactions preferred

JD or educational equivalent required. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
