The Control Officer Director will oversee the end-to-end process of Consumer & Community Banking’s risk and control environment and steer business units toward a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the design and execution activities of the Risk and Control Self-Assessment process in accordance with Consumer & Community Banking control standards to include process mapping, Inherent and Residual Risk reviews, specialized and routine control evaluation activities, and risk mitigation efforts. The role will partner with colleagues and senior levels of management to develop, implement, and strengthen risk-based practices, procedures, and systems. The successful execution of responsibilities requires the ability to influence outcomes, cultivate relationships to implement business solutions, and effectively communicate across Consumer & Community Banking’s control teams and business units. This role will also interact with compliance, audit and industry regulators.


  • Execute the Operation Risk Management framework in support of Consumer & Community Banking Control Programs by providing thorough validation of business actions required to close control gaps related to regulatory and other compliance.

  • Build a well-qualified team of professionals to provide subject matter expertise, control audit and design to ensure adherence to Consumer & Community Banking procedures, process, guidance, standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner effectively with colleagues to drive consistent and rigorous operational risk management practices and control programs including: control committees, risk mitigation, key risk indicators, control design and effectiveness evaluation/testing.

  • Influence business practices, key decisions, policies, strategies, internal controls and standards to drive change through continual evaluation of the risk and control framework and continual communication with business leaders.

  • Lead and guide business partners by identifying business risks, recommending solutions and providing business process and control challenges

  • Engage with business, operations management, legal, compliance, audit, regulators and technology control functions.

  • Design, test and validate solutions for control gaps and out of compliance processes across CCB

  • Ability to audit and identify operational risk in various complex processes (proposed and existing)

  • Strong ability to influence and drive control and risk management concepts and to design, create and evaluate effective controls

  • Ability to articulate control data and develop compelling and meaningful executive presentations that will drive improvement actions

  • Demonstrate confident leadership and sound judgment to create/uphold a strong culture of risk management

  • Lead a broad cross-functional team to analyse, design, and deliver best practices

  • Proficient problem solving skills to rapidly learn unfamiliar processes, ability to identify complex problems, gain and synthesize insights and develop actionable recommendations.

  • Exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills; interpret information, discover meaning, design content, construct knowledge, and communicate ideas
