Managing Director, Strategic Communications

The world-class Communications Team at Chase is seeking a strong leader and highly experienced communications professional to head communications for its Digital, Technology and Operations divisions. This individual will shape and tell Chase’s innovation, fintech and customer experience stories externally through media relations and other channels, and drive culture and change through strategic communications to tens of thousands of employees. The position will report to the Chief Communications Officer for JPMorgan Chase’s Consumer & Community Banking business, and work in close partnership with peers who manage communications for Chase’s businesses.

Position description

  • Serve as strategic counsel to Chase executives in support of overall communications strategy and employee engagement.

  • Develop strategic and tactical communications/public relations campaigns for new digital innovations, and maintain and grow Chase’s reputation as a leader in mobile and digital financial services.

  • Plan and execute internal communications activities in support of our executives, including town halls, market visits, employee events, and recognition activities.

  • Passionately protect and enhance the reputation of the firm – both externally and among employees.

  • Manage a team of around 15 experienced communications professionals

  • Serve on the Chase Communications Leadership Team.

Required experience

  • 15+ years of media relations and communications. Some financial services experience required.

  • Experience working at a large company preferred.

  • Strong relationships with national print, electronic and online media who cover financial services, fintech, and lifestyle consumer trends.

  • Fluency across social media and other multi-media channels with a proven ability to tap these mediums to promote brand and products/services.

  • Advanced crisis communications skills – must have led multi-disciplined crisis campaigns.


  • Excellent writing and communications skills, as well as technical media relations skills. Strong judgment.

  • Exceptional ability to partner across a large, matrixed organization. Understand how to lead by influence not control.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills. Ability to advise and work with senior management and business partners.

  • Proven track record of managing a team and serving as an effective leader.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize high volume, high priority initiatives

  • Well-developed strategy development, planning and budgeting skills. Must be able to perform on the strategic level and as a tactical contributor.

  • Comfortable in chaos and calm in crisis.

  • Unquestioned ethics with a commitment to always doing the right thing.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, BFA or related discipline. Masters or MBA a plus.
