Senior Data Engineer

This technology group provides best-in-class data analytics solutions to various Investment Management lines of business through working with the business strategy teams to execute their business strategy. This role is responsible for delivering technology solutions for the Sales and Marketing organizations.

Role Description

The successful candidate will provide high quality technology solutions that address business needs by engineering Big Data Platform and toolsets for business intelligence and advanced analytics capabilities. The candidate will be hands-on technical lead that can create conceptual, logical and physical architecture for data storage, processing, reporting and analytics leveraging emerging technologies. The candidate will have experience building large scale platforms in a financial institution, managing geographically diverse teams, and a proven track record of strong people management. The candidate will also have experience managing a structured and agile software development lifecycle and have experience with data management/data engineering/data governance. The candidate will have excellent technical writing and communication skills to document data processes.


  • Design and implement scalable Big Data architecture solution

  • Work with multiple business teams to fully understand business requirements

  • Provide architectural expertise and long-term vision to build scalable business intelligence platform

  • Guide development team and business partners in applying emerging technologies

  • Support system integration of diverse data sources and technologies used in the design, construction, testing, deployment and operations of BI solutions

  • Create and maintain technical documentation and architecture designs

  • Help to lead technology initiatives related to data and analytic solutions for Marketing and Sales organizations

  • Implement best practice tools and processes for ensuring data quality

  • Interface with business professionals, application developers and technical staff working in an agile process and environment

  • Document success criteria and monitor solution effectiveness, including system performance, adoption and other key metrics

  • Systems integration, including design and development of APIs and Adapters

  • Hands-on experience in Big Data technologies and deployments

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 7+ years development experience

  • Minimum 3+ years management/leadership experience

  • Experience building a large scale and high performing platform in financial institution

  • Experience building and managing engineering team

  • Ability to work with direct & matrix management for business engagement, solution development & delivery

  • Working experience with emerging technologies

  • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills coupled with a strong work ethic

  • Experience with development, deployment, and support of large-scale distributed applications

  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight deadline

  • Strong leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel

  • Ability to influence senior executive stakeholders to take action / facilitate buy-in of recommendations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
