Legal Department Description:

The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation. The department also includes the Office of the Secretary.

Legal is organized by Practice Groups that conform to the organization of the Firm's lines of business (LOBs) and corporate staff areas, allowing the legal staff to work closely with specific groups on a daily basis. Each line of business has an LOB General Counsel who reports to the Firm's General Counsel, and each LOB Legal team includes multiple Practice Groups. This structure provides the means for the legal teams to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the businesses and staff areas, and for the LOBs and staff areas to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to the legal teams in a timely manner.

The Technology Legal Practice Group, which reports to the Corporate and Regulatory Law General Counsel, provides legal coverage across all LOBs in the areas of Intellectual Property, Cybersecurity, Privacy, Technology Transactions, and Emerging Technologies.

The Technology Legal Practice Group is currently seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented Intellectual Property Attorney with seven to ten years of experience in trademark, copyright, and internet-related legal matters. This attorney will be primarily responsible for supporting the Intellectual Property team, including trademark enforcement, brand protection, performing research on various intellectual property related issues, and creating and maintaining policies and procedures. The attorney will support all lines of business and corporate staff areas.

The candidate will primarily:

  • Handle trademark enforcement matters, including opposition and cancellation proceedings, demand letters, UDRP proceedings, and online take-downs

  • Assist with trademark clearance, registration, and prosecution

  • Assist with clearance of third-party intellectual property and copyright matters

  • Perform legal research and prepare legal guidance documents

  • Review, interpret, and analyze agreements, advising clients and partners on rights and responsibilities related to those agreements, including in light of JPMorgan Chase policies and regulatory guidance

  • Provide intellectual property legal advice and counsel to internal clients and partners


  • 7-10 years of relevant intellectual property practicing experience in a law firm or corporate law department

  • Experience handling global intellectual property issues is preferred

  • In-house experience in the financial services industry desirable

  • Familiarity with privacy, cybersecurity, contracting, and related regulatory and risk environments desirable

  • Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction

  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment
