Legal Department Description
The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Corporation and is organized by practice groups that generally align with the Corporation’s lines of business and corporate staff areas. This structure encourages legal teams and businesses and staff areas to discuss legal, regulatory and business developments effectively and in a timely manner.
About the Office ofLegal Obligations . The Office of Legal Obligations is a firmwide, global initiative to document JPMC’s legal obligations arising from material laws, rules, and regulations and connect those obligations to policies, procedures, and/or other documentation. The OLO Legal team supports this initiative by overseeing Legal’s effort to build the inventory of material laws, rules, and regulations that impact the firm; to draft business friendly descriptions of the legal obligations that arise from those laws, rules, and regulations; and to support the ongoing efforts of the business and our functional partners as they link those legal obligations to the control documentation that helps JPMC ensure compliance.
The ideal candidate will join a quality assurance team of lawyers and other professionals that evaluate the completeness, accuracy, and consistency of the OLO’s library of legal obligations, as well as JPMC’s efforts to monitor for legal and regulatory developments that affect those obligations.
For the OLO, JPMC requires experienced individuals with strong legal and regulatory awareness and background, able to understand the risks to JPMC of non-compliance with its legal obligations. This role will require significant cross-functional collaboration, including with line of business lawyers and their counterparts in the firm’s corporate functions. It also will require regular engagement with external counsel. The environment is fast-paced, often requiring that issues be addressed quickly to ensure that the firm stays in compliance with the rapidly-evolving rules that apply to our highly regulated industry. The successful candidate must have strong analytical and collaborative skills, be able to work independently, and be a true "self-starter."
Primary Responsibilitieswill include:
Leadingand participating in quality control reviews to evaluate the OLO’sinventory of legal obligations and JPMC’s efforts to monitor for legal andregulatory developments affecting those obligations.
Performinglegal research and analysis of international, federal, and state laws,rules, and regulations, and developing legal subject matter expertise as needed.
Collaboratingwith internal line of business lawyers and Legal’s corporate functionpartners to identify and implement process changes to ensure compliancewith the firm’s legal obligations.This role will provide considerable exposure to these groups.
Instructingand liaising with external counsel, as required, on the review andanalysis of legal obligations and the laws, rules, and regulations underlyingthem.
Helpingto develop training programs for OLO stakeholders. These training programs will includetraining related to internal OLO program standards, including standardsfor identifying and capturing legal obligations, and will also look to fosterconversations about emerging legal and regulatory developments and thework of specific lines of business and corporate function groups withinJPMC.
Attendanceand participation at internal meetings related to the OLO.
Occasionalresearch to support special projects as needed.
JurisDoctor degree and/ or educational equivalent and at least three yearsof experience practicing law post JD.
Attorneycandidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirementsincluding the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will belocated prior to commencement of employment.

Allcandidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete aconflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement ofemployment.
Priorlegal experience supporting financial services institutions or anotherhighly regulated entity, and familiarity with international, federal, andstate regulation of financial products.
Proficiencyin one or more languages in addition to English is helpful but notrequired.
