Court Orders and Levies (COAL)

COAL processes Asset-Based Orders served on JP Morgan Chase by restraining customers’ funds and other assets held by the bank. The court system/government agencies issue a variety of orders to collect on debts or money judgments based on statutory terms and procedures. Money judgments are the result of a lawsuit or other debt default process where a judge or jury find in favor of the plaintiff (third-party) and award damages from the defendant (JPMC customer). Government agencies will also issue levies ordering asset restraint for child support, delinquent taxes or other customer defaulted debts. Law enforcement will seek to restrain or seize assets for violation of law or civil forfeiture.

COAL Business Systems Analyst

This position will be directly involved in all aspects of technology usage and practices within the Court Orders & Levies Department. This position will work on a team of Business Systems Analysts that closely interact with all other teams within Court Orders & Levies as well as CTO IT and other Business System supporting and/or programming teams. This position will be involved with all IT competencies supporting Court Orders & Levies including: business systems analysis, quality assurance, production support, security administration, and business resiliency.

  • Translate business requirements into IT application impacts and business process impacts.

  • Develop and update functional use cases and conduct business process modeling to explain business requirements to development and QA teams.

  • Assist teams to ensure requirements are translated to test plans and implement new functionalities by running training sessions, demos and documentation development.

  • Provide shared support for Onboarding applications including answering inquiries, trouble shooting and performing root cause analysis.

  • Excellent communication, analytical and writing skills; ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously; confidence to work with and instruct business end-users across different regions and lines of business.

· Responsible for performing all testing activities for Enterprise Releases, Off Cycle Releases and other Initiatives across one or more assigned projects.

· Utilize processes, methods, metrics and software that ensure that the systems used by COAL Document Review Specialists and Management team function with high quality, are reliable and provide required case processing abilities.

· Executing test documentation to include: test requirement index, test schedules, test plans, and detailed test cases as defined by the JPMC Project Delivery Framework.

· Communicating effectively with business units, IT Development, Project Management and other support staff.

· Executing test cases and evaluating actual vs. expected results.

· Communicating with QA Test Leads and IT Development to identify and track defects and defect fixes.

· Assessing risk to project based on results of execution and validation and making appropriate recommendations.

· Providing project/release implementation support on an as needed basis.


  • 5+ years of experience in business process engineering, or an equivalent Bachelor’s degree

  • 3+ Years of experience in a business systems analyst role

  • 2+ Years of experience with user acceptance testing

  • Understanding of the application development life cycle

  • Understanding of client/server and web technology architectures

  • Experience writing technical specifications documents and operational procedures

  • Experience with JPMC’s IT Control Policies

  • Experience with change management and the ITSM system

  • Experience with incident management, the Service Center system and Peregrine/Production Assurance Process

  • Experience creating and executing test scenarios and conditions

  • Demonstrated track record of extracting business requirements via JAD (Joint Application Design) sessions, etc.

  • Proven experience creating Functional & Technical Specifications, Process Flows, Use Case Diagrams and other analysis deliverables

  • Excellent communication, analytical and writing skills; ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously; confidence to work with and instruct business end-users across different regions and lines of business.

  • Self-starting team player and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and attention to detail

  • Independent decision-making and good judgment

  • Strong time management (punctuality and attendance), interpersonal, and people skills

  • Ability to be flexible (i.e. occasionally work nontraditional hours, and Overtime)
