The Sales Associate (SA) is an integral Merchant Services (MS) Business Development team member who contributes to achieving new sales targets and portfolio revenue growth objectives by supporting the MS Business Development Executives. This Sales Associate track is designed to allow an individual to develop skills over 2-3 years for a successful career pursuing a more senior role in Business Development, Relationship Management, or in functional areas in Merchant Services.

The core responsibilities of this position are outlined in three core pillars --- Sales Support, Client Delivery, and Professional Development. Each is described below.

Sales Support

The overall theme of Sales Support is engaging in activities that assist CSo BDEs in driving profitable revenue through selling. Specific activities include but are not limited to:

  • Understanding clients' structure and objectives

  • Assisting with call preparation/follow-up, customer research, and pitch books

  • Ensuring all client/prospect facing materials are current and compliant

  • Developing account plans and briefing memos

  • Coordinating with product partners to develop solutions

  • Taking the lead on RFP/RFI solution development

  • Developing an understanding of competitors’ products and positioning and their shares of wallet within the client/prospect

  • Developing and maintaining client facing relationship reviews

  • Identifying product extensions and growth opportunities

  • Working with the BDEs on new bids including cost/benefit analysis, pricing and profitability models, etc.

  • Understanding segment strategies to assist in developing recommendations and/or opportunities and proposal/pitch book generation

  • Work closely with BDEs to ensure correct pipeline reporting

Client Delivery

The overall theme of Client Delivery is ensuring the most efficient and effective onboarding of new clients and new services for clients. Specific activities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with BDEs to finalize sales through documentation coordination/negotiation and smooth handoff to implementation team

  • Work with internal partners to ensure successful implementation, product ramp-up

  • Coordinating Credit Risk, Know Your Customer and other hierarchies with assigned BDEs and Underwriters

  • Serving as the primary back-up for assigned BDEs and management of their portfolios

Professional Development

The overall theme of Professional Development is to leverage your time as an SA to 1) develop a broad and deep knowledge of Commerce Solutions solutions/products and why and when they are appropriate for clients/prospects, 2) demonstrate the skills and knowledge over time to fully execute as an SA without significant oversight and guidance, and 3) identify a career path and develop the requisite skill set and knowledge base to pursue such. Specific activities include but are not limited to:

  • Completing all assigned training timely and passing any analyst testing

  • Identifying and completing additional career development training (e.g., sales, credit, executive presence)

  • Actively engaging in meetings, seminars, client calls, etc.

  • Developing a network of contacts across the firm

  • Identifying and engaging a mentor

  • Understanding the Commercial Banking division of the firm and demonstrating the ability to speak to the firm’s priorities, activities, and financial condition and performance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • Generally 5 years sales or relevant business experience

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational and planning skills

  • Ability to prioritize multiple initiatives

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
