Overview

The CCB Data Management Executive will lead a team within the CCB Data Management organization to direct CCB data strategy and execution, in adherence with Firmwide and Regulatory data management standards. The individual in this position will have broad responsibilities to protect, control, and enhance the firm’s critical data assets. This individual will drive the CCB data management agenda and execute against established goals, in partnership with senior leadership from the Firmwide data management office, CCB sub-lines of business, and the CCB Technology organization. This position plays a critical role in the firm’s agenda to control its data risk while simultaneously providing the business the ability to utilize data in an agile manner to meet business objectives.

Core Responsibilities

The person in this role will be responsible for working with the CCB Head of Data Management and Governance, within the CCB Data and Analytics organization, to develop and execute a strategy to mitigate data risk, including risks associated with data quality, data provision, data consumption, and data use. Responsibilities include

  • developing and implementing data risk mitigation frameworks, such as approaches to enhance data quality, monitor file processing, ensure that data is fit for purpose, and to assess the risk of data sharing arrangements

  • defining scope and prioritizing data for the application of data controls

  • optimizing the use of automated tools to support data management activities

  • establishing governance frameworks and monitoring routines to ensure compliance with Firmwide data management and data security policies

  • working across sub-lines of business to implement data management strategies

This role requires a strategic vision of the integration of the data management approach in both the sub-line of business and functional organizations, utilizing a framework that is consistent with the overall Firmwide data strategy. The position requires strong technical knowledge of data structures and operating environments, as well as a broad understanding of critical business initiatives as they relate to data.

The individual will supervise a staff of data management specialists who are responsible for coordinating with sub-Line of business and functional partners to implement Firmwide data management policies within the CCB organization. The person filling this position will need to be able to partner and work across multiple cross-functional areas, including Technology, Risk, Finance, Compliance, Legal, sub-line of business Operations, and the Firmwide data management office. The person will need to understand key business initiatives and to integrate data management activities accordingly. This includes work on Firmwide initiatives such as the Basel Risk Data Aggregation and Reporting, CCAR, Basel Capital, Universal Underwriting, Digital Account Opening, and other critical projects. .

The individual should be able to demand respect by treating people fairly, allowing opposing views to be heard, escalating issues as appropriate, and must have the subject matter expertise to drive project planning, issue resolution, and project execution. The ability to distil complex ideas and concepts into digestible and understandable components is also critical to this position. Relationship and influencing skills are very important in this position as many of the resources required to plan and execute projects cross organizationally will be matrixed.

Additional responsibilities include

  • Guides the team in defining future state, breaking future state into defined projects, and executing on those projects through delivery

  • Establishes an approach for the on-going review of data controls, including certification of data elements, documenting data lineage, maintenance of a data dictionary, establishing data quality monitoring, and defining data management audit procedures

  • Collaborates directly with the business data owners to establish the critical sets of data that will require data certification, and driving the process to move that data through the certification process

  • Assesses proposed data sharing arrangements and evaluates associated risk

  • Navigates the organization well and partners with Risk, Finance, LOB, Control, and other functional partners to identify key dependencies and deliver results

  • Manages issues and management decisions to timely resolution.

  • Possesses strong knowledge of consumer businesses and ability to build and strengthen partnerships across functions and locations to achieve objectives

  • Communicates effectively with senior management to resolve conflicts through broad based decision making with key stakeholders.

  • Issues regular project and management reporting for business leaders

  • Works collaboratively with sub-LOB process owners and Technology to facilitate the development and evaluation of business readiness for data management processes

  • Provides clear leadership to staff, based on understanding of business issues and senior management guidance, and proactively determining new approaches as the needs of the business change

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of industry experience

  • Direct experience supporting Data Management, Consent Order or Regulatory engagements preferable

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to present information in differing degrees of detail and form depending on the audience

  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills

  • Ability to multi-task and deliver to a tight deadline

  • Self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced and demanding environment

  • Experienced and proven ability to gather/analyze complex data, develop accurate conclusions and provide recommendations with sufficient comprehension of the business to understand risk implications

  • Experienced “Change Agent” with proven ability to clearly communicate the Firm’s Data management vision and influence its adoption

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people at all levels across all functions

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and matrixed environment to build consensus

  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with colleagues, desire to learn quickly, be flexible and think strategically

  • Ability to work with internal groups including legal, compliance, audit, finance, accounting, credit and operational risk to ensure consistent understanding of requirements

  • Experience in business process analysis, documenting gaps and process standardizations

  • Experience identifying strategic improvements and delivering measurable change
